Throwback: youth-oriented shows

I was on my elementary days that I was hooked in watching this teen-oriented shows that started to be aired on Philippine television.

T.G.I.S (Thank God It's Saturday) the Philippine teen show that started it all. The series is aired during Saturdays at 4 in the afternoon produced by the GMA Network and Viva Films. A 1995 TV series that launched the career of Angelu de Leon (Peachy), Bobby Andrews (Wacky), Onemig Bondoc (JM), Raven Villanueva (Cris), Michael Flores (Mickey), Red Sternberg (Kiko) and the additional to the cast Ciara Sotto (Rain).

The story evolves in a group of friends with different views and status in life with all the conflicts that is happening to them, may it be because of their family, love of their lives, school stuffs and other reasons at the end of the day, no matter how different they maybe, they still remain friends.

This was the first series I'm dying to watch every weekend. These teens facing the challenges of growing up. The best thing about this series is that it started solving simple teenage problems to complex one.

Gimik is another Filipino drama series aired and produced by the ABS-CBN. A 1996 TV series with the Original Cast of Judy Ann Santos ( Diane ), Rico Yan ( Ricky ), Deither Ocampo ( Gary ), G Tongi ( Gina ), Mylene Dizon ( Melanie ), Diego Castro ( Jigs ), Marvin Agustin ( Joey ), Jolina Magdangal ( SC ), Kaye Abad ( Kakai ), Patrick Garcia ( Carlo ) and Andrea Blaesi ( Andy ).

This  was the rival of the youth-oriented show from other network T.G.I.S which can also be viewed on the same time slot. The story also evolve in this teenagers who are trying to cope up with trials and tribulations of being adolescent. As the series moves along these teens get to know one another and became a big group as their lives intertwine with each other.

This afternoon oriented show tackles the experiences and problems that they encountered. Insecurities in the middle child, parent-child conflict, Jealousy, Relationships, Heartbreaks, friendship, love, student life and premarital pregnancy.

"Gimik" a teenage slang word for casual or leisurely activity that is done away from home.

Tabing Ilog is a youth-oriented Filipino television drama series which aired on ABS-CBN Channel 2 for more than four years from 1999 to the early 2000's. It was top billed by Paula Peralejo ( Anne ), John Lloyd Cruz ( Rovic ), Patrick Garcia ( James ), Jodi Sta. Maria ( George ), Paolo Contis ( Badong ), Desiree del Valle ( Corrine ), Baron Geisler ( Fonzy ) and Kaye Abad ( Eds ) which the story circulates on their friendship and find their paths in finding new friends. The premise of the series focuses on the friendship.
